What are- All Types of Read Verification Errors?

  • Database page read failed verification because of a -1018 error.
  • Database page read failed verification because of no page data.
  • Information Store (1812) The streaming page read from the file "D:\Programme\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.stm" at offset 693297152 (0x000000002952e000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification due to a page checksum mismatch.
  • A log range read failed verification because of a range checksum mismatch.
  • The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. ". The read operation will fail with error -1022 (0xfffffc02). If this error persists then the file may be damaged and may need to be restored from a previous backup.

The above errors indicate that there are incorrect links or pointers between the pages, which causes the read verification process to fail. Sometimes, the page read from the Exchange mailbox store file ‘.edb’ is uninitialized or empty, i.e. the page number field contains all zeroes. This often results due to incorrect mapping of pages into the database file, resulting in checksum mismatch and a series of -1018 and -1019 errors. Other possible reasons for database damage include:

  • Improper system shutdown
  • Virus attack
  • Application malfunction
  • Operating system corruption
  • Hardware failure
  • Improper use of database repair tools

If you run into such problems, try restoring your database from an online backup. To get rid of the wasted space and expunge all empty pages in the database, do an offline defragmentation by running the ‘Eseutil /d’ command. To discard all damaged pages in the database, run ‘Eseutil’ tool with ‘/p’ option.
